Dental Check-ups and cleanings are generally recommended every 6 months
Dental check-ups are the best way for us to get to know your teeth, and to catch problems when they are small and easier to fix. Dental cleanings involve removing any plaque and tartar that have built up on your teeth since your last cleaning. This ensures that your gums and teeth stay healthy, and allows us to identify any problem areas, or areas of your mouth that would benefit from more diligent oral hygiene at home. In some cases, we recommend that you have more frequent dental cleanings.
Treatment designed to prevent dental problems using the latest evidence-based approach
Preventative dental procedures, including dental cleanings, anticavity treatment, dental sealants, and oral hygiene instructions are essential to great oral health. At Lagemann Family Dentistry, we strive to give each of our patients the tools they need to achieve the best oral health possible. We assess every patient’s cavity risk and suggest preventative treatment appropriately.
Dental Fillings are placed to restore teeth with small- to medium-sized cavities
Dental fillings provide function and protection for teeth that have been damaged by small- to medium-sized cavities, and in some cases, small chips and fractures. In our office, we place tooth-colored resin fillings that are bonded to the tooth and cured, or hardened, with a bright light. These fillings are both durable and esthetic, and help insulate the nerve of the tooth from sensitivity.
Dental emergencies can involve infection, toothaches, broken teeth, large cavities, and tooth trauma
If you are experiencing pain or swelling, broke a tooth, or damaged your teeth in an accident, give our office a call as soon as possible. Dr. Lagemann is usually available to address dental emergencies the same day and he can be reached after hours.
Treatment of a tooth with damage or decay involving the nerve
When a cavity or tooth fracture reaches the nerve of the tooth, but there is enough tooth structure to save the tooth, a root canal can be performed. Root canal therapy involves removal of the infected nerve tissue and sanitizing the nerve canal to remove the bacteria that caused the infection. The canal space is then sealed to keep bacteria from entering the tooth. After a root canal is completed, most teeth will need to have a crown placed to protect and restore the tooth as soon as possible. Root canal therapy is generally not a very painful procedure and is designed to get the patient out of pain.
Removal of a tooth that cannot be fixed
If a tooth is decayed or broken to the point that it cannot be fixed, or there is no supporting bone around a tooth due to periodontal disease, a dental extraction may be performed. This involves removal of the remaining tooth structure, and may include placement of a bone graft to hold space and provide support for a dental implant or other restoration in the future. Dental extractions in our office are performed gently and methodically to ensure a quick, uneventful recovery.
Custom-made night guards and sport guards to protect your teeth
Whether you or your child is involved in organized sports, or you grind or clench your teeth at night, some type of tooth guard may be indicated. Night guards are worn at night to protect your teeth from nocturnal clenching and grinding that can cause wear over time. Custom sport guards are worn to protect your teeth from being injured or broken during physical activity. They have even been shown to reduce the risk of concussion during contact sports. Custom sport guards provide a much more comfortable and precise fit than over-the-counter guards, and generally allow the wearer to speak more clearly while wearing the guard. A better fitting sport guard is more likely to be worn correctly by young, stubborn athletes. Custom sport guards have become much more popular recently due to examples set by our fantastic local professional athletes.
Clear Aligners can be used to move and reposition teeth without traditional braces
Clear aligner therapy is the process of gradually moving teeth using a series of aligners or “trays” that are worn over the teeth throughout the day. Generally, this method allows for full orthodontic tooth movement without the use of traditional braces and wires that are not acceptable to many patients. Because the tooth movement is planned out in advance and digitally modeled, the outcome is predictable and often faster than traditional methods. Whether you have one tooth out of alignment, crowding of your lower teeth, or would just like to spruce up your smile, clear aligners can get you there.
