Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to the questions we get asked the most about our practice and services.

What can I expect from my initial visit?

We focus on patient-centered care, and tailor your visit to meet your dental needs. Your first visit will include a full mouth set of dental X-rays and a comprehensive oral evaluation. If you have current x-rays, please let us know and have them sent to the office before your appointment. We will ask you about your dental and medical history and we will examine your gums, teeth, and your entire mouth. We will evaluate your oral health, risk for tooth decay, and your gum and bone health. We will also check your tooth alignment and esthetics, jaw joint, and perform an oral cancer screening. We will evaluate your oral hygiene to determine the type and frequency of dental cleaning appropriate for you. We are here to address any and all questions that you may have, and to make recommendations for improving and maintaining your oral health. We will discuss any recommended treatment with you in detail, and provide an estimate for treatment, including any insurance coverage.

Do you take my insurance?

We accept all PPO dental plans. Please contact our office for more information!

I’m terrified to visit the dentist – what should I do?

Our team is here to make sure you have the best possible experience at the dentist. We understand that going to the dentist can be a stressful experience, and we go out of our way to provide a calm, comfortable dental experience. Our staff have extensive experience in the dental field and have made a career out of making patients comfortable at their dental appointments. If you have had negative dental experiences in the past, we would like to know about them so that we do not accidentally recreate these experiences.

Are dental x-rays safe?

Dental x-rays are extremely safe. The level of radiation used to take dental x-rays is far lower than most medical x-rays. You are actually exposed to more radiation being out in the sun in your day-to-day life than with dental x-rays. Advances in dentistry continue to make dental x-rays safer through digital imaging and higher-speed x-rays.

Do you offer orthodontic treatment?

Yes, we do! We offer clear aligner therapy (Invisalign) for patients who are looking to improve their bite or crowded teeth, or just to spruce up an almost perfect smile. Please ask us about how clear aligner therapy can make a big difference.

What are my options for replacing a missing tooth?

As dental technology advances, the treatment options for replacing one or more missing teeth have improved. For most healthy patients, the best choice for replacing a missing tooth is a dental implant. A dental implant usually does not require any changes to the teeth next to the missing tooth, and is a lifelike, permanent solution with years of proven success. Another tooth replacement option is a dental bridge. A requirement for a bridge is that the tooth in front of and behind the missing tooth be healthy and strong. These teeth are prepared, and about two weeks later a bridge is delivered from the lab and cemented into place. A bridge requires extra care when cleaning because it is more susceptible to cavities than other areas of your mouth.

Another option is a removable partial denture, also known as a partial. This option is particularly appealing if you are missing multiple teeth and are looking for a more affordable solution. Partials can be uncomfortable, need to be removed at night, and sometimes after meals or during the day for extra cleaning. They take some getting used to and are not as comfortable as other tooth replacement options. To find out which option will work best for you, please schedule a consultation.

Do you offer cosmetic dentistry?

We offer a wide range of cosmetic solutions to improve your smile, from minimal dental bonding and tooth-colored fillings to a complete smile makeover. If you are concerned about the appearance of your smile, please inform us at your next visit and we will guide you to your best options for improvement.

Do you see children?

We do see children! Providing a comfortable and calm environment for a child’s first dental appointments is critical to establishing a lifetime of positive experiences at the dentist. We recommend bringing your child in around age 1, or within six months of when their first tooth comes in. Your child’s comfort is our priority!

I am in need of specialty dental treatment – what should I do?

As a comprehensive dental practice, we are able to provide a wide range of dental treatments and procedures for our patients. Sometimes, a procedure or part of a procedure is best handled by a dental specialist that has been specifically trained in advanced techniques. We have close, trusting relationships with many local dental specialists. In the case that one may be required in order to meet your dental needs, we will direct you to a skilled, caring dental specialist.

Do you see patients for dental emergencies?

Whether you are a new patient, or you have been with us for many years, we are available to see you and treat any dental emergency you may have. If you are experiencing a dental emergency, please call our office, and we can generally see you for a same-day appointment.
